Types of Cataract Surgery

1. Phacoemulsification

Phacoemulsification is the most common surgical treatment. It takes less time as compared to traditional method. A small incision is made around the border of the cornea, creating a hole through the membrane that surrounds the lens, in this surgery. A small ultrasonic probe is put into this aperture to use sound waves to break up the lens into little shards, acting as a jackhammer. A suction connection is attached to the probe tip, which is used to suck the broken bits. A hollow tube is then inserted through the corneal incision to place an intraocular lens implant in the lens capsule of the eye.

Phacoemulsification is the most preferred technique for cataract removal. In this technique with the help of phaco machine cataract is removed followed by IOC implanted in the bag. MICS advance in technique now a days incision size is decreased upto 1.44 mm which is known as micro incision cataract surgery. Advantages of MICS are : Recovery is very fast, Patient can resume daily routine as early as possible.

2. Small Incision Cataract Surgery

Small Incision Cataract Surgery was used to treat advanced cataracts that are too dense to be treated with phacoemulsification. Rather than removing the fragments, a larger incision is performed in this technique to remove the cataract in one piece. The intraocular lens is implanted in the same capsule after cataractous lens removal. Disadvantages are big incision longer time of recovery.

3. MICS / MICRO

MICS / MICRO incision Cataract Surgery we are performing at our hospital is most of the patients. It is performed under topical anaesthesia in which there is no need of injection so its totally painless, injection less & stich less procedure.
