Know 5 Essential Ways to Protect the eyes in winters

Be ready for the advent of chilling winters:

As soon as, the winters start approaching, protecting our bodies from harsh cold weather becomes our main focus. But just keeping our bodies warm is not enough, we know eyes are the prominent organ of our body and without them, our whole world is nothing more than a blank screen. Internet is flooded with articles which advise us to take care of our eyes in summers only but forget to educate ourselves for the winters. Protecting our eyes in winters also is as vital as it is in summers. To probe in, there are a plethora of ways to keep our eyes safe from the harsh winters.

5 Essential ways to protect the eyes from winters are as follows:

1. Protections against cold winds: We should protect our eyes from the direct cold winds which attack in the winter season because due to these cold winds our eyes fail to keep their natural moisture and dry out. One can use accessories such as glasses, caps, hats, or scarves, which can block the direct entry of the cold, dry winds. If these steps are taken into use we can protect our eyes from intense irritation caused by the dry air of winters.

2. Protection from UV rays:  It is a common myth that sun rays are harmful to our eyes just in summers but the truth is that irrespective of months and seasons UV rays are always having a devastating impact on our eyes. Eyes can be protected by wearing glasses with UV rays protection. The application of sunscreen can also have a positive effect on our eyes.

3. Intake of a nutritious diet:  Gulp a diet full of nutrition and vitamins because it is important to keep eyes strong from inside too. Citrus fruits, leafy green vegetables, carrots, seeds, fish, nuts, beef are full of vitamins and nutrition which can help to maintain the good health of the eyes. Vitamin A, E, C, B6, B9, B12 can be taken for better eye health.

4. Prevent eyes from lack of moisture: Eyes get dried out because of both cold and hot wind. In winters we spend most of the time sitting in rooms, in which heaters are on, because of the hot temperature created by these heaters the atmosphere lacks moisture and eyes tend to evaporate their natural lubrication. You can use eye drops to keep your eyes moist. Drink plenty of water, to avoid having dry eyes in winters. Direct contact of eyes with heating sources should be avoided. Avoid the hot air of hairdryers near your eyes.

5. Visit your ophthalmologist at the regular time periods: You should visit your ophthalmologist and get your regular eye check-ups done, it will help you to keep a record of your eye health. You should consult your ophthalmologist if you encounter eye diseases like conjunctivitis or herpes simplex which are common in this weather or you end up with a fungal or bacterial infection in the eyes.

Thus keeping in view, the above regimes one can protect his/her vision from damaging winter.
